While many producers claim their sound to be an extension of their environment, not many can claim that actual environment to be a paradise the same way JAMO can. For the 21 year old producer, growing up with the coastal break beaches of Victoria quite literally in his backyard, music has become a channel to voice a unique Australian love of surf and sand. An extremely talented amateur surfer, JAMO applies this fearless and fun-loving nature to his multi instrumental live sets - willing to push the envelope and take risks to keep audiences pitted. It’s no wonder then that debut track “S.O.S”easily passed over a million plays on Spotify, and found support in the form of fellow sun-chasers Rüfüs Du Sol, PNAU, Dillon Francis and Snakehips. Quickly following on with singles in 2018 / 2019, Losing Touch, Falling Deep, Connection, Your Way and Pluto and a run of solo launch shows and festival appearances including Listen Out Melbourne, Jamo is showing no signs of slowing down.

We sat down with him to chat about his journey so far, and what he has planned for 2020.

1. Jamo, tell us - how are you going?
I’m good! Working on heaps of exciting stuff at the moment.

2. You’ve had a whirlwind of a couple years, going from your debut single reaching over a million streams to your most recent festival slot. What has been your favourite moment so far? Yes it’s been one amazing journey that’s for sure... My favourite moment so far would have to be performing at St. Kilda Festival earlier this year - That was such a vibe!

3. Do you have a particular routine before your performances, a pre-show ritual or a superstition? Haha nothing too crazy.. I’ll have a couple rehearsals in the lead up and maybe listen to a couple tracks to get my mind in the zone on my way to the gig.

4. Your singles so far have us imagining dreamy seascapes and long coastal drives. Where do you find the inspiration for your music? From all walks of life! The music that I’ve currently got online was inspired from the Mornington Peninsula but the next gen of music has a much more broad taste of inspiration, through my travels, moving to Melbourne etc.

5. You are very pro-bucket hat and can be seen rocking one in many of your social images. If you had to pick one item of clothing to wear for the rest of your life, what would it be? Haha this is a good one, but I’d have to say the ‘Dickies Pants’ are a must.. just for the reason that i can never make shorts look good with any outfit.
